shopping for a credit card

Credit Cards vs. Debit Cards

Credit cards are NOT the same as debit cards. Debit cards are linked to your bank account so the money you spend is automatically deducted from your account. Debit cards do not involve interest and provide a convenient alternative to cash. If you decide to buy a large-ticket item, such as a refrigerator, which type of card is it better to use?

  1. A debit card

  2. A credit card

  3. Use cash instead

"B" is correct. A credit card makes it possible to dispute the charge if the fridge turns out to be defective. Once you pay with a debit card or cash, your money is gone. However, these methods also make it less tempting to overspend.
