How to Choose a Credit Card

How can you be sure you're selecting the right credit card for you?

  1. Apply for a card that doesn't require an annual fee.

  2. Choose the credit card offer with the best introductory interest rate.

  3. Select the credit card with the lowest APR.

"C" is usually the best approach. However, if you're one of the 30% of Americans who pay your entire credit card balance each month, other features may prove equally as important as the APR. When choosing a credit card, be aware: Introductory or "teaser" rates generally change to higher interest rates down the road. Don't automatically discount credit cards that require an annual fee; they may offer other benefits. Before applying, consider several offers. Compare their fees, charges, and other features.
