Reducing Textbook Costs

Textbooks are an expense you’ll encounter every semester. The price tag on these can be staggering, and the cost is always climbing. How can you get the textbooks you need without breaking the bank?

  1. Buy them all from the campus bookstore.
  2. Use online resources to locate the best deal.
  3. Always buy brand-new copies, so they will last longer.

“B” is correct. The on-campus bookstore is a fast, simple way to find what you need, but it’s also expensive. If you shop there, start early and look for “used” copies. To save more, make a list of your textbook ISBN numbers and comparison shop online. Sites like Amazon.com or CourseSmart sell low-cost e-books for use on Kindle, iPad, or other platforms. If money is tight, reserve books at the library.
