Harmful Health Supplements

Miracle cure scams make lots of claims -- everything from curing cancer and AIDS to reducing wrinkles, or improving sexual performance or hair growth. They often pose as safe, inexpensive alternative health products or services, but are likely to be costly and dangerous. Which of these is a sign you may be dealing with a scammer?

  1. The product ad includes evidence provided by a reputable scientific source.
  2. The product ad recommends you consult your doctor before beginning use.
  3. The ad includes celebrity endorsements or anonymous testimonials (i.e., Joan from Chicago, IL.)

“C” is correct. Product ads may sound too good to be true, say they can cure a wide range of conditions, or feature special ingredients. Before you order, seek reliable medical advice and read independent research. Also contact the Better Business Bureau.
