How Scam Artists Operate

Con artists look for ways to manipulate and control their victims. They carefully target them and play upon their weaknesses and strengths, often painting pictures of easy money or preying on their fears. Which of these is a common tactic they use?

1. They invite you to double check their credentials.
2. They recommend you talk with your family and friends about their offers.
3. They play upon your sympathies or desire to help others.

“C” is correct. They begin by determining your personality profile and needs. They then create a false sense of security, convincing you to depend and believe only in them. Along the way, they may distract you from what’s really going on by telling lies laced with enough truth to make them credible. Once they have you convinced, they take your money or property. This final step often happens so fast and is so skillful you don’t have time to think until it’s too late.
