State Lemon Laws

Most states have passed laws to protect consumers who buy cars with significant defects. For a car to be considered a "lemon," which of these must apply?

  1. The car must have been repaired several times for the same defect.
  2. Even with repair the defect hasn't been resolved.
  3. The defect must substantially affect the car's safety or ability to be driven.

For a car to be a lemon, ALL these factors must be present. Contact your state Consumer Protection Agency or Attorney General's Office to learn more.
