before you buy a car

Identifying Needs and Wants

Before buying a car, consider what type of vehicle you need: Do you need one that's small enough to navigate with ease and that will fit into snug city parking spaces? Or do you need one that's large enough to haul your children, pets, and maybe even garden supplies? For most of us, safety and reliability are important features. Which of these is also essential if you're on a limited budget?

  1. Good gas mileage
  2. An extended warranty
  3. Extra rust proofing

"A" is correct. A car that guzzles gas might break your budget. Extended warranties sometimes cost more than the maintenance they cover. Extra rust proofing is only helpful if you live where it's truly needed. Also list any extras you'd like to have. You may not be able to afford everything you want.
