Firsthand Job Experience
Young adults who are seeking jobs also benefit from firsthand career experiences. How can you help your graduate achieve this goal?
- Provide names and contact information for people you know who work in your grad's field of interest.
- Discuss how to identify and conduct "fact finding" interviews with companies that hire employees with your grad's training and skills.
- Invite your child to visit your workplace and "shadow" you for the day.
These strategies may ALL prove helpful. Also discuss and role play ways to effectively network and follow up on job leads. During these exercises, be careful not to take over. Remember: The best life lessons are those we learn ourselves.
