Advice to Parents

After Graduation, What's Next?

Graduation traditionally has represented "financial independence" for both children and their families. Until recently, it signified that point where graduates leave the nest for the last time, and parents are no longer responsible for their financial support. In the past few years, how has this view changed?

  1. After graduation, graduates may now struggle more than ever to become financially independent.
  2. After graduation, graduates may still need their families' financial help.
  3. Both "A" and "B" are true.

"C" is correct. Today's graduates are less likely to leave school with a well paying job. They also may owe large amounts on student loans. These factors make it harder for them to become self sufficient and may place their parents in financial jeopardy.
